Auth code- The authorization code for a domain transfer. A code issued by the provider that legitimizes the holder for a domain transfer. It is usually required to submit to Redomain – unless the domain is already in the DomainCatcher portfolio. More: Redomain process
Backorder- An order to re-register a domain at or after the drop. Backorder services try to register an expiring domain the moment it becomes publicly available. Success is not guaranteed; prices and models differ by provider. More: ReCatch versus backorder
Backlink- A link from another website to a domain. Backlinks are a signal of relevance – but only if they fit the topic and don't come from spam. For expired domains they must be checked before purchase. More: Checking backlinks
Catch- The successful registration of a domain becoming available. In drop-catching, a catch refers to the successful automated registration of a domain immediately after its release. ReCatch is distinct from this: the acquisition happens before the drop. More: What is ReCatch?
Canonical- An HTML hint pointing to the authoritative URL of a page. The canonical tag tells search engines which URL should count as the original – important against duplicate content, also when relaunching an expired domain. More: ReCatch for SEO projects
Domain history- The previous use of a domain. Previous content, operators, redirects and spam phases shape how users and search engines see a domain. History is part of every purchase check. More: Checking domain history
Domex- DomainCatcher's internal domain marketplace. On Domex, registered DomainCatcher users trade domains among themselves at fixed prices between 9 and 99 euros net. Domex is not a ReCatch product. More: ReCatch vs. Domex and ODM
Drop- The moment a domain becomes finally available. After RGP (and, where applicable, Pending Delete) ends, the domain is deleted and can be registered anew by anyone. ReCatch acts before this point, backorder exactly here. More: Redemption Grace Period
Expired domain- A domain whose registration has expired. Expired domains come with history, links and risks. They can change holders via backorder, marketplaces or – for Redomain domains – via ReCatch. More: Evaluating a domain
First come, first served- Allocation principle: whoever buys first gets the domain. With ReCatch there is no auction and no reservation. A domain may already be taken by the time you open it; the live status on DomainCatcher.com is binding. More: What is ReCatch?
Trademark law- The legal protection of trademarks and identifiers. Trademark, name and identifier rights can conflict with the registration or use of a domain. They must be checked before the purchase. More: Trademark check
Nameserver- Servers that resolve a domain into IP addresses. Nameserver settings determine where a domain points. After a ReCatch acquisition, they are among the first items to set up. More: ReCatch checklist
ODM- DomainCatcher's Open Domain Market. The ODM sells domains publicly to retail customers and non-members – with no price cap. The ODM is not a ReCatch product. More: ReCatch vs. Domex and ODM
Pending Delete- The final phase before deletion for many gTLDs. In this short phase, deletion is final; restoration is no longer possible. The drop follows afterwards. More: Redemption Grace Period
Redemption Grace Period- The protection period after a domain is deleted or expires. During the RGP, no third party can register the domain; the previous holder can usually get it back. The duration depends on TLD and registry. ReCatch offers Redomain domains on the final RGP day. More: RGP in detail
Redomain- The irrevocable monetization of a domain that is no longer needed. The previous holder hands the domain over to DomainCatcher and retains the claim to a possible share of proceeds – currently 50% for general monetization or 15 € for a ReCatch sale. More: What is Redomain?
ReCatch- The acquisition of a Redomain domain on the final day before the drop. ReCatch offers selected domains from the Redomain process at a fixed price – no auction, first come first served, handled via DomainCatcher.com. More: What is ReCatch?
Registrar- A company that registers domains for end customers. Registrars mediate between domain holders and registries. deinrecatch.de is not a registrar and does not carry out any registrations. More: About deinrecatch.de
Registry- The authority that administers a top-level domain. The registry manages the central database of a TLD (e.g. DENIC for .de) and sets processes such as the RGP duration. More: Redemption Grace Period
Renewal- The annual renewal of a domain registration. Renewal costs are the largest ongoing cost factor of a portfolio. Every renewal is a new cost decision. More: Cleaning up your portfolio
TLD- Top-level domain – the extension of a domain. The TLD (.de, .at, .com …) determines the target market, registry, costs and processes such as the RGP duration. More: Evaluating a domain
