This checklist accompanies you through a ReCatch – first through the check before the purchase, then through the technical steps right afterwards. You can tick items off (purely locally, without storage) and print it.

Before the purchase

• Name is clear: short, pronounceable, no risk of confusion
• TLD fits: extension matches target audience and market
• History checked: web archive reviewed – see guide
• Backlinks checked: link profile reviewed – see guide
• Spam checked: no casino, pharma, adult or network patterns
• Trademark rights checked: USPTO/EUIPO/WIPO and web search – see guide
• Project goal defined: a concrete plan instead of vague hope
• Ongoing costs known: TLD renewal costs researched – see ReCatch costs
• Technical resources available: hosting, time and know-how planned in
• Purchase price accepted: currently 25 € net plus possible VAT

Right after the purchase

• Check domain status: takeover completed in the DomainCatcher portfolio?
• Check contact details: holder and admin data correctly stored
• Plan DNS: set nameservers and records deliberately
• Set up HTTPS: certificate and redirect to https://
• Check historical URLs: which old addresses still get visits or links?
• Set up Search Console: create property, confirm ownership
• Set up Bing Webmaster Tools
• Create a sitemap and submit it
• Monitor indexing: keep an eye on coverage and possible manual actions
• Redirects only with genuine matches: redirect old URLs deliberately to matching new pages
