ReCatch process
The ReCatch process does not start with the buyer, but with the previous holder: every ReCatch domain was previously handed over via Redomain. On the final day of its Redemption Grace Period, it can be acquired at a fixed price – first come, first served, without an auction, via DomainCatcher.com.
The process step by step
- Handover via Redomain: The previous holder irrevocably hands the domain over to Redomain.
- Redemption Grace Period: The domain passes through the RGP. How long depends on TLD and registry.
- Earmarked for ReCatch: On the final RGP day, the domain is earmarked for ReCatch.
- ReCatch list: The domain appears in the ReCatch list on DomainCatcher – usually on the day before the drop, at around 06:00 (CET).
- Acquisition at a fixed price: Users can acquire the domain at the current fixed price (currently 25 € net).
- First come, first served: Whoever completes the purchase first gets the domain. There is no reservation and no auction.
- Processing: After a successful purchase, the domain is taken over via DomainCatcher into your portfolio there.
- Without acquisition: If the domain is not acquired, it can then follow the registry's regular path – up to the public drop. The current rules on DomainCatcher.com are authoritative for the exact procedure.
What the process means for you as a buyer
The ReCatch phase is short: between the publication of the list and the end of the final RGP day, there is little time for checking. So prepare in advance – with the ReCatch checklist and the local domain check you can evaluate a domain in a structured and swift way without overlooking important points.
A ReCatch domain may already have been acquired by another user at any time. Only availability, price and status on DomainCatcher.com are binding.
